What is happening. Psyllium and plant sterols lower LDL-C through complementary mechanisms.

Mechanism. Sterols reduce cholesterol absorption while psyllium increases bile acid excretion and soluble-fiber viscosity.

Recommendation. Reasonable to combine; take sterols with meals and psyllium with plenty of water, separated from medications as needed.
