SynergyInsufficient evidence
What is happening. Green tea catechins and ergothioneine are both dietary antioxidants with anti-inflammatory activity that can act through complementary mechanisms.
Mechanism. Ergothioneine provides transporter-mediated intracellular antioxidant defense; green tea polyphenols scavenge free radicals and modulate redox signaling. Effects are additive rather than competitive.
Recommendation. Generally compatible. Be mindful of total catechin (EGCG) load from concentrated green tea extracts, which carries its own hepatotoxicity caution at high doses, independent of ergothioneine.
