Supplement × Prescription·a caution·Insufficient evidence

Famciclovir + Magnesium Glycinate

Caution Insufficient evidence

Famciclovir absorption is not dependent on gastric acidity and it does not chelate divalent cations in a clinically significant way, so magnesium glycinate is not expected to reduce its absorption. Famciclovir bioavailability is high and unaffected by typical mineral supplements.

CautionInsufficient evidence

What is happening. Famciclovir absorption is not dependent on gastric acidity and it does not chelate divalent cations in a clinically significant way, so magnesium glycinate is not expected to reduce its absorption. Famciclovir bioavailability is high and unaffected by typical mineral supplements.

Mechanism. Famciclovir is well absorbed (roughly 77 percent bioavailability) by passive and carrier-mediated mechanisms not reliant on chelation-sensitive structures, so magnesium does not form interfering complexes or meaningfully alter uptake.

Recommendation. No dose separation is required between magnesium glycinate and famciclovir. Take famciclovir as prescribed with or without food.
