What is happening. Supplemental L-Tryptophan can increase serotonin synthesis and raise serotonin-toxicity risk with vortioxetine.

Mechanism. Tryptophan is converted to 5-HTP and then serotonin, adding to vortioxetine-related serotonergic tone.

Recommendation. Avoid concentrated L-Tryptophan supplements during vortioxetine therapy; normal dietary protein is not the concern.
