What is happening. Rhodiola may have stimulant and monoaminergic effects, which are risky during nonselective MAO inhibition.
Mechanism. Possible additive monoaminergic stimulation can raise risks of hypertension, agitation, insomnia, or serotonin toxicity.
Recommendation. Avoid rhodiola while taking phenelzine.
