What is happening. As a polyphenolic flavone, tangeretin can complex with non-heme iron in the gut and may modestly reduce its absorption when taken in the same meal.
Mechanism. Polyphenolic flavonoids form insoluble complexes with non-heme iron in the intestinal lumen, which can lower iron bioavailability; the effect is most relevant when correcting deficiency.
Recommendation. Separate tangeretin-containing citrus extracts from oral iron supplements by about 2 hours if you are repleting iron status.

Space the doses apart by at least this window to avoid the conflict.
